Wheel rotation

Rotating front to rear about every 10,000km is the simplest way to get more life out of a set of tyres. We can do it at your place.

Rotation

Free tread life, basically

Fronts and rears do completely different jobs. On most cars the fronts steer, take the braking load and, on a front wheel drive, put the power down as well. They wear out well before the rears. Leave them where they are and you end up replacing two tyres while the other two still have most of their tread.

Swapping them round every 10,000km evens that out, so the set wears down together and you replace four tyres at once, later. Over the life of a car that is a meaningful amount of money.

It is also a free inspection. Every wheel comes off, so anything odd going on with wear, with a nail you had not noticed, or with the brakes, gets spotted while it is still cheap to deal with.

Worth pairing with

  • A rebalance at the same time
  • A pressure check on all five, including the spare
  • A look at tread depth across the set
  • An alignment check if wear looks uneven

We recommend rotating about every 10,000km, which for most people is roughly once a year.

What to look out for

Even wear

Fronts and rears wear at different rates. Swapping them keeps the whole set in step.

Once a year for most

Around every 10,000km. Easy to remember if you tie it to a service or a warrant.

A look at everything

Wheels off means we see the brakes, the inside edges and anything picked up in the tread.
