Wheel balancing
Balancing is included in every tyre we fit, at no extra cost. If an existing set has started to vibrate, we can rebalance them at your place.
If it shakes at 90, it is usually balance
A wheel that is out of balance by a few grams does not matter at walking pace. At open road speed that few grams is being flung around fifteen times a second, and you feel it as a shimmy through the steering wheel or a buzz through the seat.
Left alone it does more than annoy you. The tyre wears in patches, which makes the vibration worse, and the constant shaking works on wheel bearings and suspension components that cost considerably more than a balance.
Weights also fall off, particularly the stick on type after a few Auckland winters, so a set that was perfect last year can be out now. If the vibration came on gradually, that is usually what has happened.
Signs a wheel is out
- Shimmy through the steering at 80 to 100
- A buzz through the floor or the seat
- Vibration that comes and goes with speed
- Patchy or scalloped tread wear
- A missing wheel weight on the rim
Balancing is free with every tyre we fit. For an existing set, give us a call.
What to look out for
Free with new tyres
Every tyre we fit is balanced as part of the price. It is not an add on.
Protects the car
Constant vibration wears bearings, bushes and shocks, all of which cost more than a balance.
Worth doing at 10,000km
Rotating and rebalancing about every 10,000km gets the most life out of a set.
