Wheel alignment
Alignment is done at the workshop on Dairy Flat Highway, because it needs a proper alignment rack. It is the cheapest thing you can do to make a set of tyres last.
Bad alignment quietly eats your tyres
An alignment out by a small amount does not announce itself. The car drives more or less normally and then one day the inside edge of a front tyre is down to the belt while the rest of the tread still looks new. By that point you are buying tyres you should not have needed for another year.
Auckland roads do the damage. Kerbs, speed bumps and potholes all knock the settings out over time, and so does ordinary suspension wear on an older car.
We recommend having the alignment checked whenever you replace tyres, and any time you notice uneven wear across the tread or the steering pulling to one side. There is no point putting new rubber on a car that will chew it up the same way.
This is the one service that has to happen at the workshop. Everything else we can bring to you.
Get it checked when you notice
- The steering pulls to one side
- One edge of a tyre is wearing faster
- The steering wheel sits crooked when straight
- You have hit a decent pothole or kerb
- You are replacing your tyres anyway

What to look out for
Uneven wear
The most common symptom, and the most expensive. One edge goes while the rest of the tread is fine.
Pulling or crooked steering
If you have to hold the wheel off centre to go straight, the alignment is out.
After new tyres
Checking alignment with a fresh set is the cheapest way to protect the money you just spent.
