Trailer tyres
Trailer and boat trailer tyres, load rated and fitted at your place. Built for the weight, the salt water and the long stretches parked up between trips.
The tyres nobody thinks about until the roadside
Trailer tyres live a strange life. Heavily loaded for a few hours, then parked in the same spot in the sun for three months. That combination hardens rubber and flat spots tyres far faster than normal use, which is why so many trailer blowouts happen on tyres with plenty of tread left.
Boat trailers get the added insult of being backed into salt water while the wheels are hot. That is hard on rims, bearings and valve stems, and it is worth having all of it looked at rather than just the rubber.
We fit load rated trailer tyres to suit the loaded weight, not just the size that happens to be on there now. If the trailer came with whatever was cheap at the time, there is a reasonable chance it is under rated for what you tow with it.
Worth checking before summer
- Date code and sidewall cracking
- Pressures, which are higher than a car
- Flat spots from sitting in one place
- The spare, if there is one
- Bearings, especially after salt water
Easier for us to come to the trailer than for you to tow it in on suspect tyres.
What to look out for
Boat trailers
Salt water and hot bearings are hard on everything down there, not just the tyres.
Load rated
Fitted for the loaded weight of the trailer rather than whatever size is on it now.
Age matters
Parked in the sun for months at a time ages a trailer tyre faster than towing does.
